Having a medical emergency? Call 911.

Chest pain, stroke symptoms, trouble breathing, severe bleeding, a major head injury, or a bone through the skin all need an emergency room. Do not drive yourself. Emergency rooms are required by federal law to examine and stabilize you regardless of your ability to pay.

Conover sits at the geographic center of Catawba County — convenient for most things, less convenient when you need same-day medical care. The city has no walk-in urgent care of its own, so residents drive to Hickory or Newton.

We’re about ten minutes from downtown Conover. Take US-70 west toward Hickory, then north on Center Street. Coming off I-40, exit 128 puts you a few minutes closer.

Conover residents: urgent care or the emergency room?

Conover sits almost exactly between two emergency departments — Catawba Valley Medical Center to the southwest and Frye Regional in downtown Hickory. Both are the right call for a real emergency: chest pain, stroke symptoms, trouble breathing, severe bleeding.

For everything short of that — an ankle rolled at Conover City Park, a fever that started overnight, a cut that needs stitches — you’ll usually be seen faster with us and pay considerably less. Emergency departments triage by severity, so a non-urgent problem can mean hours in the waiting room. ER bills also tend to arrive in two pieces: a hospital facility fee plus a separate physician charge. Our self-pay visit is $165 including one X-ray, quoted before treatment starts.

On-site X-ray means one visit

We have digital X-ray in the building. A suspected fracture gets imaged, diagnosed, splinted, and referred for orthopedic follow-up in a single visit. Without on-site imaging, that’s a clinic visit, a separate trip to an imaging center, and a third appointment for results.

Sports physicals for Newton-Conover students

Conover students attend Newton-Conover City Schools, and NCHSAA requires a current physical on file before a student can practice or compete. We do them walk-in, same-day, no appointment — $30 self-pay. Come before the August rush if you can.

Insurance and Medicaid

We accept NC Medicaid, Medicare, and most major insurance plans. Under NC Medicaid the maximum copay for any service is $4, and members under 21 are exempt entirely. If you’re uninsured, our self-pay pricing is published upfront — visits start at $125, and $165 covers your visit plus one X-ray or lab test.
