Having a medical emergency? Call 911.
Chest pain, stroke symptoms, trouble breathing, severe bleeding, a major head injury, or a bone through the skin all need an emergency room. Do not drive yourself. Emergency rooms are required by federal law to examine and stabilize you regardless of your ability to pay.
Newton is the Catawba County seat — courthouse, county offices, and about 13,000 residents. It’s also roughly fifteen minutes from our door: US-321 north, then NC-127 toward north Hickory.
If you work in county government or downtown Newton and need to be seen after hours, we’re open until 7:30 on weekdays, which is later than most primary care offices in the area.

Newton residents: urgent care or the emergency room?
Catawba Valley Medical Center is the closest emergency department to Newton, and it’s where you should go — or call 911 — for chest pain, stroke symptoms, trouble breathing, severe bleeding, or a serious head injury.
For a sprain, a fever, an infection, or a cut that needs closing, an emergency department is more machinery than the problem requires. You’ll wait behind more urgent cases, and you’ll typically be billed a facility fee on top of the physician’s charge. Our self-pay visit is $165 including one X-ray, with the price quoted before treatment starts.
On-site X-ray means one visit
We have digital X-ray in the building. A suspected fracture gets imaged, diagnosed, splinted, and referred for orthopedic follow-up in a single visit. Without on-site imaging, that’s a clinic visit, a separate trip to an imaging center, and a third appointment for results.
Sports physicals for Newton-Conover students
Newton students attend Newton-Conover City Schools. NCHSAA requires a current physical before a student can practice or compete, and we do them walk-in with no appointment — $30 self-pay. August is the crunch; earlier is easier.
Insurance and Medicaid
We accept NC Medicaid, Medicare, and most major insurance plans. Under NC Medicaid the maximum copay for any service is $4, and members under 21 are exempt entirely. If you’re uninsured, our self-pay pricing is published upfront — visits start at $125, and $165 covers your visit plus one X-ray or lab test.
