Having a medical emergency? Call 911.
Chest pain, stroke symptoms, trouble breathing, severe bleeding, a major head injury, or a bone through the skin all need an emergency room. Do not drive yourself. Emergency rooms are required by federal law to examine and stabilize you regardless of your ability to pay.
If you live in Caldwell County and work in Hickory, you already know US-321 well. We’re at the north end of Hickory on Center Street — a straight shot down 321, about twenty-five minutes from Lenoir, and right on the way home for a lot of Caldwell County commuters.
We’re open until 7:30pm on weekdays, which means you can be seen after your shift instead of taking a morning off.

When Lenoir residents should choose an emergency room
UNC Health Caldwell is in Lenoir and it’s the right destination for an emergency — chest pain, stroke symptoms, trouble breathing, severe bleeding, a serious head injury. Call 911; don’t drive yourself, and don’t drive to Hickory.
Where we’re useful is the middle ground: a sprain, an infection, a fever, a cut that needs closing, a workplace injury on the Hickory side of the commute. You’ll get on-site X-ray, a provider trained in emergency medicine, and a price quoted before treatment — $165 self-pay including one X-ray, with no facility fee.
On-site X-ray means one visit
We have digital X-ray in the building. A suspected fracture gets imaged, diagnosed, splinted, and referred for orthopedic follow-up in a single visit. Without on-site imaging, that’s a clinic visit, a separate trip to an imaging center, and a third appointment for results.
Sports physicals for Caldwell County students
Lenoir students attend Caldwell County Schools. NCHSAA requires a current physical before practice or competition — we do them walk-in, no appointment, $30 self-pay. Convenient if you’re already coming into Hickory.
Insurance and Medicaid
We accept NC Medicaid, Medicare, and most major insurance plans. Under NC Medicaid the maximum copay for any service is $4, and members under 21 are exempt entirely. If you’re uninsured, our self-pay pricing is published upfront — visits start at $125, and $165 covers your visit plus one X-ray or lab test.

Why would I drive to Hickory instead of staying in Lenoir?
